Websites for will writers
Clients cannot tell you from a solicitor. Be clear about what you are and what it costs.
Will writing is not a reserved legal activity in England and Wales in the way some other legal work is, which means clients are choosing between solicitors, will writing firms and doing it themselves, usually without understanding the differences.
Being explicit about your qualifications, regulation, insurance and price is what turns that confusion into a reason to choose you rather than a reason to hesitate.
What your customers want answered
- What does a will cost, and is that per person or per couple
- What are your qualifications, and are you regulated or insured
- Do you do home visits
- What about lasting powers of attorney and trusts
- Where is the will stored and what does that cost
Be upfront about storage and executor feesThe sector's poor reputation comes largely from ongoing storage charges and from firms appointing themselves as executors on terms families discover later. Stating your position on both, plainly, is the clearest possible signal that you are not that sort of firm.
Scare tactics about dying intestate
Fear-led marketing is common here and increasingly distrusted. A calm explanation of what actually happens without a will, and who genuinely needs more than a simple one, converts better with the careful clients worth having.

Tell me about your business.
One message is enough to start. I’ll read it and reply myself, usually with a couple of questions and a clear price.
