Websites for care homes

An adult child is reading this at midnight, guilty and frightened. Write for them.

Care home websites are read by families in crisis, usually after a fall, a hospital admission or a diagnosis that has made the current arrangement impossible. The person doing the research is almost always an adult child, and they feel guilty about the whole thing.

They need practical information quickly, and they need to feel that the home understands what this decision costs them emotionally. Corporate language about person-centred care achieves neither.

What your customers want answered

  1. Do you have a vacancy, and what type of care do you provide
  2. What does it cost a week, and what is not included
  3. What is your latest inspection rating
  4. Can we visit, and when
  5. What happens about funding, and what if the money runs out

Publish the fees and the inspection ratingBoth are the first things families look for and both are frequently absent. Weekly fees by care type, what they include, and your current rating from the relevant inspectorate — the Care Quality Commission in England, or its equivalent in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland — establish trust immediately because they are checkable.

Photographs of empty rooms

Families are trying to imagine their parent living there. Photographs of residents doing ordinary things, with permission, and of real meals and communal spaces in use, tell them far more than an immaculate unoccupied bedroom.

Tell me about your business.

One message is enough to start. I’ll read it and reply myself, usually with a couple of questions and a clear price.
