Websites for bookkeepers
Clients cannot tell you from an accountant. Explain the difference and the handover.
Small business owners are frequently unclear about where bookkeeping ends and accountancy begins, and whether they need one, the other or both. That confusion costs bookkeepers work they should be winning.
Explaining it plainly — what you do monthly, what an accountant does annually, and how the two work together — positions you as the practical, affordable, year-round relationship rather than a lesser version of an accountant.
What your customers want answered
- What do you do that my accountant does not
- What does it cost — monthly, or by transaction volume
- Which software do you work in
- Do you handle VAT returns and payroll
- Are you qualified and supervised
State your anti-money laundering supervisionBusinesses providing bookkeeping, accountancy or tax services must be supervised for anti-money laundering purposes, either by HMRC or through a professional body. Saying who supervises you, alongside your qualifications and insurance, separates a professional practice from somebody doing books at the kitchen table.
No pricing model at all
Owners want to know whether this is fifty pounds a month or five hundred. A tiered structure based on transaction volume or turnover lets them place themselves and is far more effective than inviting a conversation.

One message is enough to start. I’ll read it and reply myself, usually with a couple of questions and a clear price.
