Websites for bakeries

The counter pays the bills; celebration cakes and wholesale pay the rent.

Walk-in trade is the daily business of a bakery, and the website barely touches it. Where a site earns its keep is in the bookable work: celebration cakes, wedding cakes, orders for events and wholesale supply to cafés and shops.

Those customers plan ahead, search deliberately, and spend considerably more. Most bakery websites are a photo gallery and an address, and capture none of it.

What your customers want answered

  1. Can you make a cake for my occasion, and how far ahead do I need to order
  2. What does a cake like the one in the picture cost
  3. Can you cater for allergies or dietary requirements
  4. Do you supply cafés and shops wholesale
  5. What do you have in daily, and when do you sell out

Price ranges on celebration cakesCustomers have no idea whether a tiered cake is eighty pounds or four hundred, and most will not enquire to find out. Publishing ranges by size and complexity, with photographs at each level, converts a browse into an order.

Ignoring the allergen question

Cakes are bought for gatherings where somebody usually has a requirement. Being clear about what you can and cannot safely do, including whether the kitchen handles nuts, is both a legal obligation in how you inform customers and a reason people choose you.

Tell me about your business.

One message is enough to start. I’ll read it and reply myself, usually with a couple of questions and a clear price.
