Websites for equestrian centres

Livery, lessons and events are three businesses. Price and explain each separately.

An equestrian centre may run livery, riding lessons, hacking, events and clinics, and each has a completely different customer: a horse owner choosing where to keep an animal, a parent booking a child's lesson, a rider entering a competition.

Livery in particular is a major decision, comparable to choosing a school, and owners want detail that riding school content never provides.

What your customers want answered

  1. What livery do you offer and what does it cost
  2. What is included — turnout, hay, bedding, mucking out
  3. Do you do lessons, for what ages and levels, and what do they cost
  4. What facilities are there — school, hacking, jumps
  5. Do you have vacancies

Set out exactly what each livery package includesTurnout hours, who does what daily, hay and bedding, holiday cover and what is charged extra. Owners compare yards on precisely this, and vagueness reads as a yard that will nickel and dime them.

Not stating the licensing position for lessons

Hiring out horses for riding is a licensable activity in England, inspected and rated by the local council. Parents booking a first lesson are reassured by it, and it distinguishes a proper school from an informal operation.

One message is enough to start. I’ll read it and reply myself, usually with a couple of questions and a clear price.
