Websites for damp proofing specialists
The sector's reputation problem is misdiagnosis. Being the firm that diagnoses properly is the opening.
Damp is the trade where customers arrive most suspicious, and not without reason. A great deal of damp is misdiagnosed, and a great deal of chemical injection has been sold to houses whose real problem was a blocked gutter, a raised path or condensation.
That suspicion is an opportunity. A firm that explains how damp is actually diagnosed, and admits that the commonest causes are not the ones that generate the biggest invoice, stands out immediately against competitors offering a free survey and a guaranteed cure.
What your customers want answered
- What is actually causing the damp in my house
- Is your survey independent, or does it exist to sell me a treatment
- What guarantee comes with the work, and is it insurance backed
- Will the plaster have to come off, and who makes good
- Do you deal with condensation and ventilation as well as rising damp
Name the causes you rule out firstPenetrating damp from defective rainwater goods, bridged or raised external levels, failed pointing, and condensation from poor ventilation account for a large share of what gets reported as rising damp. A firm that says so, and charges for a proper diagnosis, reads as honest in a sector where customers expect the opposite.
The free survey that is really a sales visit
Customers have worked out what it means. A paid, written survey with a diagnosis and options — including the option of doing nothing structural — is a stronger offer and attracts better clients.
